PRESS RELEASE
(Mpls., MN -
August 2, 2005)
What do you get when you put a three time GRAMMY
winner soulful r&b recording artist, a hip hop GRAMMY nominated artist, gospel music and nine young
co-host 'rising stars' together?
You get the 'Midas Touch', HERITAGE, and excellence in
character in the spotlight. YiG Showcase 'Rising Stars' will host the 1st Annual YiG Showcase Celebrity Skate & Food Drive with Special guest Gary Hines along with Cameron
Hughes, KJ and appearance by GRAMMY nominated hip hop artist XROSS on August 7 from 4:30 to 6:30 pm, at the St. Louis Park
Roller Garden, St. Louis Park, MN. The Event is sponsored by GRACE Media Network.
Gary Hines is
undoubtedly one of Minnesota-base elite celebrities who's
award winning discography ('74-current) as founder
and leader of the Sounds of Blackness, is evidence of
his 'Midas Touch' (three GRAMMY, Soul Train &
awards; Stellar, EMMY & NAACP Image awards
nominee to name a few). The Minnesota based group
has
reached both national and international prominence
throughout the last decade. Their new CD 'UNITY'
(SLR Records) hit the streets on July 26, '05). Yet,
you can recognize his humility, wisdom and genuine heart in
allowing our youth to 'touch' him.
Hines will join YiG
Showcase for an afternoon of non stop hip hop music
skating party, food drive and give skaters and guests
a close up with Gary Hines. The food drive will be
donated to a local food shelf. Centerstage will also be
gospel recording artist 15 years old Cameron
Hughes ('What a Wonderful World') featured on Bobby
Jones Gospel and hip hop artist 10 years old 'KJ' (new
cd 'what we like') who currently has music videos
airing on BET, The Word Network, MBC and many of
the radio station broadcasts around the country. Visit
Sounds of Blackness site to sample their new
release 'UNITY'.
YiG Celebrity Showcase© is a media mentorship outreach initiative to young people. There are nine members in the core group whose
faces may not always be seen at the same time on
the program but they are all an intrinsic part of the
YiG segments produced. Jasmine Avent (Howard U,
grad '06) studying journalism; two years as Kare 11 Whatever show co-
host and currently spot producer trainee, published
feature writer -- will pursue a network anchor career;

and Professional Golf Association career; Deborah

communications degree; Joy Groce (freshman,
Clark/Atlanta) pursue mass communications; Judah
Powers Stalling (Coon Rapids HS) made her debut on
the Showcase at age five as an announcer -- pursue
entreprenuership. She simply wanted to see people
who looked liked her on television. Other core
members include Jade Nelson (North Community HS)
desire to be an anchor; Vanlice 'Vee' Washington (Blaine HS 2005 grad) college 2006, pursue

Thaddeaus Hill (middle school) a multi talented student
that is articulate in expressing his passion about
reaching young people for Christ.
Co-host Vee
Washington, Liberian born and
coming to the United States with his parents at age
5, assertively says that he is offended by the lack of
young adult positve role models on television. He
selects to be a responsible person with a lot of self
descipline. He see's two types -- one is responsible
and the other is stuck in a babied mode, taking no
positive direction. We (YiG) can make a difference.
YiG is a segment feature of TGR Live! newsmagazine
show ©(debuted '95) and TGR news magazine (tabloid
originated '79) produced by Grace Media Network.
Through YiG, young adults are given the opportunity
to present their talents, interact with credible
celebrities, religious leadership and other high-profile
personalities. YiG co-hosts give their audience a first
hand view of their ideas on how to close the
generation gap and change negative media
perceptions of young people in the community.
Coming October 2005 -- Campaign Literacy Awareness: The Right To READ (CLA)
YiG stars are featured in the CLA public service
