COGIC Church racially attacked by 'burning cross' outside its doors
(Monday, January 23, 2006, 7 PM, Community Ecumenical Service will be held)
St. Paul, MN -- (January 22, 2006 GMS) --
Liberty Temple Outreach Ministries, an affiliate of The
Minnesota Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction of the Church Of
God In Christ, Inc. located at 793 Armstrong Ave. in
St. Paul, was racially attacked by 'burning
cross' out side its doors on Tuesday, January 17
between 9:30 to 10:00 PM. “Although I am
shocked and disappointed at such an action...we
believe and know that no weapon formed against you
shall prosper,” declares the church's Pastor Thomas
Mite.
This cowardly act of racial hatred has caused great
concern within the community and has painfully
reminded us that even in 2006, with all of our
knowledge and advances, racism still exist even in
Minnesota.
GMS confirmed at the time of this release, because of
this situation, God's Squad, the St. Paul Mayor's
Office, the community and elected officials along with
the Police have been meeting and a planning
committee has been established to address this issue
in a proactive manner.
Statement to the Media/Community
Dear
Ministers, Elders, Pastors, Imams, Priests,
and Concerned Leaders,
“Community cannot feed for long on itself, it can
only flourish with the coming of others from beyond,
their unknown and undiscovered brothers
[sisters].”
--
Howard Thurman, Search for common Ground
Because we, as a part of the body of Christ,
understand and believe in the scriptures which state
that “no weapon formed against you shall prosper,”
and “I can do all things through Christ who
strengthens me,” I would like to invite you and your
congregation to a Community Ecumenical Service
which will be held on Monday, January 23, 2006, at
our Church. We are located at 793 Armstrong Ave. in
St. Paul. The Service will begin at 7:00 pm. At
the service, you will hear about some of the steps we
will be taking as a community to engage the
community, especially the youth, in conversation and
action to identify where we are apart so we can
come together.
Please do all you can to attend this service. The
more we do together the more we can accomplish for
the Kingdom.
If you have any questions or need directions to the
Church, please call our office at 651-222-4043, leave
a message and someone will get back to you.
Thank you in advance for your prayers and I look
forward to meeting and greeting you on Monday
night.
In the Service of the Master,
Pastor Thomas Mite
