From 1985 to 1988, Roosevelt George attended Grambling State University and worked at the college's radio station KGRM where 4,000 students and staff knew him by his first name as the 'smooth radio announcer'. His fans will also appreciate knowing that he's from Clinton, Louisiana (only 30 minutes from Baton Rouge), and an 'excellent cook', whose specialty is gumbo, jambalaya, cakes and pies to name a few. He stayed focused on his solo career and relocated to Minneapolis, MN . "I happen to be in a concert in Minneapolis and heard James Grear & Company...I was totally blown away. Even though it was my desire to do the solo thing, I immediately fell in love with James' group. I tracked him down to see if I could become a member. To my surprise, he was actually looking for a tenor. That's when I knew that it must have been the will of God for us to come together. I sang with the Company for 12 years or so."

"I am excited and filled with joy that this is finally taking off -- this broadcast has been five years in the making . "I believe that we are more than conquerors in the midst of the storm and in the mess. There just needs to be more people declaring it publicly, and now, the platform is here, 'Testimonies: The Experience', says Taylor.
Episodes include a variation of what Brother Eric calls message time, local and national events, and what it takes to get the testimonies on 'Testimonies: The Experience'.
Synopsis: 'Testimonies: The Experience' is a platform where people can come and share their their testimonies on live TV -- the real live uncut, hopefully, unedited version of where you were in life, and how you found God and how he brought you out of the situation.
Brother Eric, a called out journalist and television host in God, believes he is now the modern-day biblical Joseph storing up the Word, "I believe it is so important in this season to be obedient unto God for there is a famine in the land and only those who store up the Word will survive!, says Brother Eric who was called to do the program five years ago. "I really want to give people the opportunity to share their testimonies in a way they may not be able to behind the four walls of the church. Expect to see real life people talk about their struggles in life and how they overcame."

 (GMSNewsChannel.com) Brooklyn Park, MN - Gospel music's legendary Vera Jean Eskridge Jenkins' symphony of life began on January 13, 1933 when she was born to beloved parents Luetta & Eugene Eskridge in North Little Rock, Arkansas. Vera began her gospel training as a musician at King Solomon Baptist church in North Little Rock, as a very young girl. In her late teens and early twenties, she became the musician, and an original vocalist for the famous Loving Sisters.
In the early 1960’s, Vera moved her family to Minneapolis, and became the pianist for Bethesda Baptist Church while continuing to tour with the Loving Sisters. In 1963, she recorded her first single called The Free Gift of God, which she recorded with The Brewerettes. She left touring with the Loving Sisters later that year following the tragic death of daughter Kathy Brewer. She later became a member and musician at North Central Baptist Church were she formed the Angelic Chorus which was choir comprised of many different people from the Twin Cities. After her stint with the Loving Sisters, Vera toured for a while with the Staple Singers as both pianist and vocalist. She then started many vocal groups such as the Cheeriteers, which was a men’s vocal group, and the Cheerette’s, a women’s group. From there she also started the Charlemettes and the Muscettes , female groups for which Vera played and wrote music for their albums.
In 1974, Vera became one of the first gospel music disc jockeys for KUXL’s Notes of Love radio show. In 1976, Vera won the Minnesota State Fair talent contest hands down. By 1977, Vera left KUXL and signed on as a gospel DJ for KMOJ which had just debuted on the airways. During this time Vera, along with Roland Wilson, started working extensively with the Brewerettes and the Angelic Chorus, winning numerous awards. They were booked at many venues in the Twin Cities and nationwide. In 1978, Vera’s composition of I’m So Glad to Be In Service One More Time was recorded by James Cleveland’s Gospel Music Workshop of America in Constitution Hall, Washington, DC. Vera also wrote a very successful play called From Earth to Heaven which ran for two years.
In the 1980’s, Vera did a lot of solo work with the Ordway, opening for acts such as Doc Severson from the Tonight Show, and Betty Buckley from the television show, Eight is Enough. She opened for other groups such as Sweet Honey In The Rock, and the Charlie Daniels Band.
During the 1990’s, Vera continued to perform although her health started to weaken. She began to explore her other artistic gifts such pottery, painting, and knitting. Vera was an excellent down home cook which she would pass on with or without the recipient’s consent. If she caught you in the kitchen, the next thing you knew you were making hot water corn bread. She also made a mean Kentucky butter pound cake. Also in the 1990’s, Vera became a member of El Bethel Baptist Church were she started the El Bethel Inspirational Choir and the Harvest Convention. After that she hosted many different musical events and taught music classes for children.
In 2000 Vera retired from music and turned it over to her children but she would sing with them on occasion. She performed with Danny Brewer, Carlus Brown, and Anthony Brewer with Augsburg College’s Evolution of Gospel. Most of all “Mother” as she was affectionately called by her children was a faithful prayer warrior. Vera was also involved in foreign ministry. She passionately loved her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, her family, and her loving friends. Her song will be deeply, deeply missed.
'Mother' Jenkins died of heart failure March 21 at Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis. She was 76.

to Help Fight HIV/AIDS in the United States and in Africa

The week-long event, oldest and largest AIDS awareness program targeting the Black faith community, mobilizes thousands of faith institutions and millions of church goers to champion AIDS education, testing and compassionate care in the African American community. According to Pernessa Seele, Founder and CEO, The Balm In Gilead, the Black Church Week of Prayer is the organization’s most visible response to those who have criticized faith communities as being “silent” in the face of AIDS. “By uniting leaders at the national level and providing local churches with theologically appropriate methods and materials for addressing AIDS at the grassroots level, the Balm In Gilead and its programs empowers Black faith communities to respond effectively to this devastating pandemic.”
Simultaneously Addressing AIDS in the USA and Africa
To help mark the 20th annual year of the Black Church Week of Prayer, the Balm In Gilead will introduce The Big Coffee Project, a partnership between The Balm In Gilead and Sweet Unity Farms Gourmet Coffee, a Tanzania-based company, to support the elimination of AIDS both in Africa and the United States.
This partnership will generate funding directly supporting programs designed to improve HIV/AIDS prevention, treatment and care services among people of the African Diaspora, which includes programs in the United States and Tanzania.
Seele adds, “The Balm In Gilead, along with its national leadership, is announcing a call to action for all congregations, organizations and the entire Black community to join the crusade for AIDS education, prevention, testing and compassionate care and services. By supporting The Big Coffee Project, we can raise adequate resources necessary to stop this epidemic among our children and adults. The Big Coffee Project also helps to bring provide the continuum of care to children and adults and bring clean water to poor villages in Tanzania. HIV/AIDS among Black Americans
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the number of Black Americans living with AIDS increased by 33% between 2001 and 2005 and although Black Americans represent only 12% of the U.S. population, they account for half of AIDS cases. Black women account for the vast majority of new AIDS cases among women and while Black teens (aged 13-19) represent only 15% of U.S. teenagers, they account for more than 70% of new AIDS cases reported among teens. In Sub-Saharan Africa, an estimated 24.5 million adults and children are living with HIV.

The Oklahoma-based Browns travel across the United States as Literacy Consultants and are Spokespersons for Campaign Literacy Awareness: The Right To READ® (CLA). They provide literacy training for educators and parents. The primary objective is to increase the students' language development skills with a concentration on literacy. The Browns share this simple method with educators, parents and mainstream/faith-based initiatives in a "vibrant, imaginative and entertaining" fashion proving that teaching reading can be fun.
 Sylvia Brown (author, reading consultant, motivational speaker and private tutor) graduated with honors from South Carolina State University, and received her Masters Degree from the University of Virginia. She served as a public school speech pathologist for 26 years, and an elementary school administrator for 4 years. Brown is an expert at training teachers to increase literacy skills with children and adults. Brown is one of few consultants in education who has actually taught preschool, elementary, middle, high school, and adult students to read successfully. During her tenure as principal at Walt Whitman Elementary School in Tulsa, Oklahoma, test scores increased significantly each year under her leadership on the Iowa Test of Basic Skills. Brown was instrumental in leading her teachers to use the phonics, spelling and comprehension skills to increase test scores.
Her mission and passion is to make this simple process enjoyable for the teachers and the learners across America.
John Brown, Jr., married to Sylvia, is president of Majestic Scholar Publishing Company. Brown is the former president and general manager of East Tulsa Dodge in Tulsa, OK.
