the “Pavarotti of Gospel”
A native of Minnesota, Robert is perceived as the “Pavarotti of Gospel” in the Twin Cities. At the early age of six, Robert began singing with his family, “The Robinson Children.” He acted as coordinator of the group even in his early years; he also was the lead vocalist for the group.
Since then, Robert has aspired to make music his career. His voice can be heard as both lead and background vocalist on various album projects with the Sam Davis Gospel Ensemble, Minneapolis Gospel Sound, GT and the Halo Express, Volume 10, Connell Lewis and Cornerstone and Excelsior Choral Ensemble. He also performed for such greats as Aretha Franklin, Vanessa Bell Armstrong, Jermaine Jackson, Prince, Mattie Moss Clark and the Clark Sisters, The Steeles, and the Sounds of Blackness.
For 15 years, Robert toured with nationally celebrated pianist Lorie Line and her Pop Chamber Orchestra, serving as the only vocalist in her holiday, spring and summer tours. In 2001 Robert collaborated with Lorie on a project entitled “The Show Stoppers”. The project features selections that Robert has performed with Lorie and her Pop Chamber Orchestra during their many years of working together.
Robert also has nine other solo projects to his credit: His most recent releases - Robinson’s Gospel CD “The Faith Project” (available now), and his Holiday CD “Spirit of the Season” (September '07) . “I want to refocus thinking on what the holiday season should be all about” says Robinson. “Sharing love and giving love is something we can do all year long, not just at Christmas;” From the Heart, From the Heart, Vol. 2, Christmas From the Heart, Praise From the Heart, Robert Robinson ”Live” with Friends and Songs for the Season.
