Minnesota Hurricane Katrina Relief (MNHKR):

Coalition of churches, civic, business and professional community based organizations, political leaders and representative are ready to aid evacuees

Minneapolis/St. Paul -- (September 06, 2005 GMS) -- Minnesota Hurricane Katrina Relief (MnHKR) is a coalition of churches, civic, business and professional community based organizations (CBOs), and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) joined by political leaders and representatives of city, county and state government as a broad multicultural Minnesota response to the devastation caused by Hurricane Katrina.

MnHKR reflects the sense of responsibility and accountability of Minnesota's Black community to our brothers and sisters, their communities and institutions that have been pressed to the limit. We are committed to assisting in their recovery from the greatest natural disaster ever to befall this nation. MnHKR state that the evacuees are not 'refugees' -- they are American citizens.

MnHKR is organizing and supporting efforts to collect and ship relief supplies to communities in Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama, principally through creating and/or utilizing direct congregational links between Minnesota Black congregations and Black congregations in the affected states, and in the states where individuals and families are being transferred due to disaster area evacuations. MnHKR is working with the State of Minnesota evacuee resettlement initiatives announced over the weekend by Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty, and with mayors of Minneapolis and St. Paul to assure and support best practices based on principles of cultural competency and proactive partnership with and engagement of Minnesota's Black community. "We envision this project as an infrastructure to engage people from all communities across the state. It is vital that as energy and resources are directed, that they be organized to ensure that cultural competency is woven throughout our broader communities' collected effort," states Rev. Richard Coleman, Kingdom Oil. MnHKR has formed working committees to organize and maximize our response to Hurricane Katrina.

The committees are:
1. Resettlement 2. Volunteers 3. Pastors and Churches 4. Political 5. Communications.

Information about the work, meeting time and place, and minutes, actions, recommendations of each committee are available daily at this website's discussion forum/blog, and on the home page of www.insightnews.com. Committees also will post meeting notices and event notices at the insightnews.com Community Calendar.

We invite any and all community organizations, businesses, churches, agencies, and organizations, and, individuals, to post meeting and event notices on the Community Calendar. We encourage the community to use the Community Calendar facility aggressively. It is a powerful and practical tool for effective community planning.

Online Discussion Forum
It is critical that the rich, diverse voice of our community find its way to the forefront of public policy discussion and formation. To that end, we have created separate discussion forums to invite and encourage wide, principled and passionate discussion of our community's interests, leadership, and vision for service to our community and to our nation and to humanity. The discussion forums deal with Hurricane Katrina Relief through the lens of Culture & Arts; Health & Wellness; Neighborhood, Community & Government; Education. We have created specific discussion forums to talk about Mississippi, Louisiana, and Alabama issues, and a general forum to discuss global issues. We encourage our community to weigh in on all these important topics. We envision the discussion forums can be useful tools for redistributing information being circulated through email lists and blogs. People may want to capture and post interesting articles and rich media files they want to share with the rest of us.

Finally, our intent is to collect links to websites of Black agencies and organizations in Minnesota, and nationwide, as well as to other resources that will strengthen our ability to know and respond with clarity and power, individually and collectively.

Bishop Paul S. Morton, Sr. -Pastor Jerry Q. Parries

President of Tehillah Music Group RE: Bishop Paul Morton’s church, Greater Saint Stephens Full Gospel Baptist Church, Beacon Light Cathedral and Life Center Cathedral...

Dear Friends,

I greet you in divine love!

(September 1, 2005 -Belle Report) I am Pastor Jerry Q. Parries, President of Tehillah Music Group as well as Pastor of the Christian Family Worship Center. I have lived in New Orleans for the past 8 years under the leadership of Bishop Paul S. Morton. On June 15, 2005 I was sent out by Bishop Morton to start a Ministry in Orlando FL. On Monday August 29, 2005, New Orleans and the Gulf Coast had widespread destruction from Hurricane Katrina. An estimated 80 percent of the below-sea- level city was under water, up to 20 feet deep in places, with miles and miles of homes swamped.

We need to help the people of God who have had this misfortune. Bishop Paul Morton’s church, Greater Saint Stephens Full Gospel Baptist Church, Beacon Light Cathedral and Life Center Cathedral and many other church locations are still under water or are having major flooding problems. To that end, Pastor Jerry Q. Parries, Max Siegel, Sheilah Belle, Gospel Today Magazine, The Belle Report and Verity Records are initiating efforts for our communities to pull together to help our brothers and sisters in the south.

Our hope is to have gospel announcers, artists and churches host, fund raisers or benefit concerts for this relief effort. All monies will be sent to: The Full Gospel Baptist Church Hurricane Relief Fund at 1301 Alamanace Church Rd. Greenboro NC. 27406.

Please write in the check memo Gospel Relief Fund/TBR. Bishop Paul S. Morton has been a blessing to the church community, and now it is time for the church community to help not only Bishop Paul S. Morton, but the people of New Orleans. For additional information call; Pastor Jerry Q. Parries at (504) 382- 7598 or Sheilah Belle at (804) 775-6990. Or e-mail us at JerryQII@yahoo.com. The turn around time on these concerts is 30 to 60 days from TODAY!

GMWA Hurricane Relief Fund Gospel Music Workshop Aids Hurricane Victims The Gospel Music Workshop of America is now calling on churches, record companies, recording artists and each of its 200 chapters to organize concerts and events to aid victims of hurricane Katrina. Proceeds will go to a special fund handled by the National Black United Fund. We all have been affected by this tragedy and we all want to do as much as we can to help, said GMWA chairman, Bishop Albert Jamison. Some of our GMWA members have been left homeless and many of us have friends and relatives we have not been able to contact. That’s why we’re asking each chapter to get involved and that’s why we’re partnering with the National Black United Fund to handle collection and distribution of funds for us.

GMWA member artists who are currently on tour have been asked to donate the proceeds of one performance during the month of September to the relief effort. Other artists who are not otherwise obligated are asked to donate their talents to a local community event working towards the same cause. Dr. Charles Fold, GMWA vice chairman, said he has asked each chapter to make its event an all- inclusive, community-wide effort wherever possible. Members of GMWA’s Gospel Announcers Guild will be working to help promote the events, said GMWA executive vice chairman, Al Hobbs. Participating churches have been asked to designate the fourth Sunday in September (September 25) as Gospel Relief Fund Sunday and to collect a special offering for the relief effort.

**For additional information and a listing of GMWA- sponsored community events, go to www.gmwanational.org, e-mail gmwagospelhelp@yahoo.com or phone (313) 898- 6900. Make donations payable to the GMWA Gospel Help Fund and mail to the National Black United Fund, 40 Clinton Street, Newark NJ 07102. Phone NBUF at (800) 223-0866.

YiG Honoree - The Late Terrece J. Blair *Terrece J. Blair (April 28, 1970-August 8, 1993)

Terrece J. Blair, a YiG Showcase™ Honorary Host, was blessed upon the earth on April 28, 1970. She grew up as a hardworking student that paved the way for her acceptance at the University of Minnesota. At the time, Blair was also a mother of two children. She was enrolled in the School of Journalism at the university with ambitions of pursuing a career in the media industry after graduation.

At age 23, Blair’s life ended. This year Blair would have been 35 years of age. Blair was known as an outstanding lady dedicated to her education and her children. She was a powerful lady who overcame her triumphs.

Today and hereafter, Youth in Gospel™ (YiG™) continues to celebrate her life in remembrance of what she stood for. Formed officially in 1992, a year before Blair’s death, YiG™ is an initiative of Grace Media Network that mentors, develops, empower & educates multicultural teen and college student leaders to attain kingdom excellence in media.

Through various mentorship programs, it creates platforms to showcase oratory skills and talent, allows students to explore careers in mass communications, fosters community volunteerism and interacts with credible personalities in the media industry with students interested in the field. YiG™ empowers, educate and encourages teens to have a go-getter attitude as Blair did. Blair left not only a legacy for excellence but her daughter who will one day continue what she stood for: higher education, nurturing and to live life to the fullest.

One of the many things Blair last wrote was on the back of a photo (photo shown) was ...don’t trip, just do it. YiG™ has adopted 'don't trip, just do it' as its tag; fosters her motto and promotes it amongst its 'Rising Stars' members. That’s why it is no coincidence that the YiG™ organization is establishing the YiG™/Terrece J. Blair scholarship. The goal is every year a dedicated student will be chosen to receive the prestigious scholarship sponsored by Grace Media Network (GM@GMNetwork.cc).

Until this day no one really understands why Blair is no longer a part of the physical world but she will always remain in the hearts of those that loved her. There is no way of predicting what Blair might have achieved. Therefore, YiG™ has committed itself as a support tool to make sure that other potential minds - Rising Stars - will have the opportunity to achieve similar goals.

Let Terrece J. Blair’s life and what she stood for was and still speaks TODAY to be a tutelage to blaze your trail. As she would put it ...don’t trip, just do it.

YiG Showcase Hosts - Vee & Jade *YiG Showcase™ co-hosts Vanlice 'Vee' Washington (Blaine HS graduated '05) and Jade Nelson (North Community HS) review The Constant Wife at the Guthrie Theater (Mpls)

Vee -- "It would be safe to say that The Constant Wife was directed towards the age mature public. I say this because of the time setting, the humor and the language that was used. The way the actors presented themselves was remarkable. They were very believable as if they were from that time period. The story line itself lacked an interest. In the beginning, I felt that I could have walked out for a few minutes and rejoined the audience and not been lost in the story. What I liked about the story line was how it was an eye opener. It spoke of things still present today -- women who are with their husbands for money and security, but not for their selfworth; it showed those that were still living the life of a person in the household 'just there taking up space' how ridiculous they looked. I give this play a 7 out of 10. I say this because the story line kept me guessing on when The Constant Wife would explode, although it lacked in intrest thoughout the play. The actors were excellent. They had no flaws. I would have to agree that the title of a professional is well suited for this cast."

Jade -- "A comical play written by Somerset Maugham first opened in New York 1926. Making Abrupt success and overtime making its way to Minnesota. The play was about a woman whose goals were to have a husband who could provide for her. Married for fifteen years the marriage began to crumble as her husband’s fidelity hit the fan. His actions indeed repulsive she remains constant to him. She takes up a job marking her independence, after a year of earnings she finally expresses her feelings of her husband's fidelity. She runs off with a companion after being the constant wife for so long. I would give this play a 9 for really capturing the time period with the garments, set and language. Also it was interesting how she didn’t react to his wrong doings but gained her own prosperity first and then found a companion. The Actors and actresses did a remarkable job. But the play wasn’t my style of choice. Overall I enjoyed it and would recommend it to adults.
