invitation to Parents and Community Leaders. The
Minnesota Parent Leadership Network (MPLN) is proud
to sponsor a first of its kind event. This is a free
workshop open to the community and parent leaders
of children with mental and behavioral issues.
Convening Friday evening July 28 - Saturday, July 29.

Akinsanya along with Ted Thompson, MA LP,
Facilitation training featuring Cathy Ferrazo from
MACMH and with legislative training with NAMI-MN’s
Sue Hansen, Legislative Committee Chair. Event

"In this time of severely reduced funding in education
and other services for our children we often find
ourselves at odds with each other; parents vs.
teachers; legislators vs. constituents, etc. It is time
to stop the sniping and reach beyond our individual
needs and wants and combine our efforts in order to
work as one towards the most important goal anyone
could have: improving the systems and communities
in order to insure a healthy environment for the
future of all our children. We are at a critical
crossroad. Together we can learn methods to help
our children succeed at home, at school and in their
communities. We will discuss ways to address
different learning styles, how to become more
involved in our neighborhoods and communities, to
recognize warning signs our children may be exhibiting
and how to reach out to our communities for help,"
explains Tovarich Bourne, MPLN Board
Member.
Dr. BraVada Garrett-Akinsanya is a licensed
clinical psychologist with over 24 years of experience
in the field of mental health. She recently assumed
the position as Executive Director of the African
American Child Wellness Institute, a children’s mental
health agency dedicated to the research, delivery
and coordination of comprehensive wellness
strategies for children of African descent. Dr.
Akinsanya also serves as the President of Brakins
Consulting and Psychological Services. She also
serves as the immediate past President of the
Minnesota Association of Black Psychologists, and
was the founding President of the Multi-Cultural
Specialty Providers Mental Health Network.

inner-cities of St. Paul and Minneapolis.
You have the opportunity to help provide
PowerPacks – backpacks filled with school
supplies – for urban churches to share with needy
families in their communities.
In addition to school supplies, each PowerPack will
provide a children’s Bible and a “neighborhood
relationship” between the child, his family, and a
church in their community. There are two great ways
to “give hope” to an inner-city child through the
PowerPack outreach:

Guthrie Theater prepares to open its new home
The Guthrie Theater will unveil its new
three-theater home on the banks of the Mississippi
River with a thrilling series of opening events, to be
headlined by a free Community Celebration on
Sunday, June 25, 2006. The stunning new
theater will be showcased through numerous family
activities, inaugural performances, live music, and an
extraordinary fireworks display. Opening events are
made possible by Target, the exclusive opening
weekend sponsor. Designed by internationally
renowned architect Jean Nouvel of Ateliers Jean
Nouvel, the new $125-million Guthrie is Jean Nouvel’s
first completed North American project, and one of
the largest theatrical arts building projects in the
country. The Guthrie’s new building replaces its
former facility at Vineland Place in Minneapolis. The
new three-theater complex sits on the banks of the
Mississippi River in downtown Minneapolis— a new
architectural landmark that celebrates the Theater’s
illustrious past and heralds its confident future.

(Mpls, MN) Hondel Brothers Films
directed two upcoming music
videos for gospel artist & co-producer, Roosevelt
George. George was formerly part of the popular
Gold-selling gospel music group, James Grear and Company. Both
videos were filmed in Minneapolis, MN, June 3 & 4,
2006, on location at Bean Scene Internet Cafe and
Open Door Evangelistic World Ministries (ODEWM)
with Designate Bishop Keith Jenkins.
The two videos "I Get Joy" and "If Jesus Says You're Healed" (featuring Shirley Marie Graham, formerly of the Sounds of Blackness; James Grear & Company; a cameo appearance by J Isaac) `will promote George's debut CD titled,
Sent to Encourage You produced by F. Darnell Davis. Hondel
Brothers Films, a Florida based company, has been
directing music videos for the past ten years,
returning to Minnesota to film this project made it
also an exceptional time as it all began for both the
Hondel brothers Dave and Gary in the Twin Cities.
Collaboration with Concord Entertainment on
this project to feature the community in George's music video
filming is a concept that is long over-due quoted the project's spokesperson. The concept of merging and featuring
south & North Minneapolis dancers and the public in
the video is the concept and accomplishment of
George. Concord Entertainment will announce the
video release details at a later date.

**June 22-25, 2006...The Minnesota
Twin Cities Chapter of the Gospel Music Workshop of
America will present a three-day summer gospel
music workshop and concert. The workshop will run
from 6:30 to 8:30 PM beginning Thursday, June 22
and Friday, June 23. The final workshop session will
be held on Saturday, June 24 from 11 AM to 1 PM.
The workshop will close with a concert featuring the
music presented in the workshop on Sunday, June 25
at 4:30 PM. Workshop open to the public.
